EU Operation Irini
EUNAVFOR MED Irini (Operation Irini) is a European Union naval operation launched in 2020 in the Mediterranean Sea. Its primary task is to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya. The operation's mandate also includes monitoring illegal oil exports from Libyan ports, countering smuggling and human trafficking, and gathering intelligence. The operation is commanded from Rome and draws on naval and aerial assets contributed by EU member states.
