Trump announces "energy ceasefire" between Ukraine and Russia; neither side confirms deal as Kharkiv is struck
On October 11, US President Donald Trump declared that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an "energy ceasefire" halting strikes on each other's oil refineries, announced after a phone call with Vladimir Putin. Neither Kyiv nor Moscow formally confirmed the agreement, and within hours Russian forces struck the TEC-5 power plant in Kharkiv and the village of Pisochyn, killing three and injuring more than 20. Trump also revealed an October 9 deal to allow Russian diesel fuel exports to US and global markets, lifting sanctions Congress had banned in 2022.
