Russian drones strike Kyiv-Warsaw train and gas station near Polish border; European officials' special train caught in attack zone
On the morning of September 13, Russian drones struck the locomotive of the Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train roughly 2 km from the Polish border in Volyn Oblast and ignited a gas station near the Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing. A separate chartered night train carrying former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's foreign and security adviser Günter Sautter, Bundestag members and other European officials was stopped near the border and briefly evacuated. No passengers or railway staff were injured in the locomotive strike; Ukrainian and Polish sources differ on whether anyone was hurt at the gas station, and Poland says its airspace was not violated.
