Airborne Assault Troops
The Ukrainian Air Assault Forces (Desantno-shturmovy Viyska) are a separate branch of Ukraine's Ground Forces, established in 1992 from the Soviet airborne units stationed in the country. Their role is to conduct parachute and landing operations behind enemy lines, carry out deep raids, and perform shock assault actions. The forces trace their lineage to the Soviet Airborne Troops, and Ukraine inherited the 25th, 51st, and 95th airborne brigades. Since 2022, Air Assault units have been heavily engaged in counter-offensives in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.
