Criminal Code of Ukraine
The Criminal Code of Ukraine is the codified law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in 2001 and in force since 1 September 2001. It defines the concept of a crime, the grounds for criminal liability, the system of punishments and the rules for their imposition. The Code is divided into a General Part and a Special Part and is regularly amended by new articles. Its provisions are applied in criminal proceedings, including cases involving counterfeit medicines, fraud or the illegal circulation of pharmaceutical products.

Ukraine detains alleged Russian agent who planted GPS trackers on fuel tankers in Odesa
Ukraine’s security service detained a 20-year-old suspected Russian agent in Odesa who installed remotely accessible GPS trackers on fuel tankers to help locate oil depots. The SBU said the devices could have been used to correct missile and drone strikes on fuel-storage facilities in southern Ukraine. The suspect was arrested without bail and faces a state-treason charge.

Ukraine charges Saldo and two others over alleged forced transfer of students to Crimea

Ukraine detains man suspected of helping Russia strike his own drone unit
Ukraine’s Security Service says it detained a mobilized man from Zhytomyr Oblast whom the FSB allegedly recruited before he joined the Armed Forces. The suspect is accused of transmitting information that helped Russian forces locate and strike his own unmanned aerial vehicle unit. The SBU says more than 100 drone operators were evacuated from the potential strike zone as a result.

Former Prosecutor General department head charged in “Carthage” operation
Ukraine’s anti-corruption authorities have notified a former department head at the Office of the Prosecutor General of suspicion as another participant in the criminal organization uncovered in the “Carthage” operation. Investigators allege the suspect communicated with illegal call centers, received money, helped conceal the network and recruited participants. The court imposed 60-day detention with an alternative bail option of 8 million hryvnias.

Ukrainian servicemember held in custody over death of beaten mobilized man at Lviv TCC
Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation has notified a servicemember of a Lviv Territorial Centre of Personnel and Social Support (TCC) of suspicion in the death of a mobilized man beaten at the facility. The man died in hospital from multiple rib fractures, severe lung damage and other life-threatening injuries. A court has placed the suspect in custody without bail; he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Ukraine detains two repeat offenders accused of planning attacks on Kyiv conscription offices on Russian orders
Ukraine's SBU and National Police said on October 20 that they had detained two repeat offenders in central Kyiv who, on orders from Russian special services, were preparing a series of terrorist attacks on buildings of the Territorial Centers of Recruitment and Social Support (TCC). The suspects were caught during reconnaissance and now face up to 12 years in prison; a third accomplice abroad has been charged in absentia.

Grenade blast in Sheptytskyi injures four; military serviceman on leave detained
A grenade exploded on a main avenue in Sheptytskyi, Lviv Oblast, late on the evening of September 26, wounding four local residents — three women aged 17, 18 and 56 and a 26-year-old man. Police identified the person who detonated the device as a 36-year-old resident of Sheptytskyi district, an active-duty serviceman who was on leave at the time, and detained him under Article 208 of Ukraine's Criminal Procedure Code. A criminal proceeding has been opened under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism involving a weapon), which carries a penalty of three to seven years in prison.

Ukraine ends simplified СЗЧ return program; longer general procedure now in place
Ukraine's Ministry of Defence announced that the simplified voluntary return program for servicemembers whose unauthorized absence (СЗЧ) was recorded before 12 June 2026 ended on 20 September. Returns are now processed under a general procedure through the Military Law Enforcement Service (ВСП) and reserve battalions, with a longer process, longer wait for pay restoration, and no option to independently choose a unit.

NABU exposes bribery scheme at Ternopil Oblast tax office, two officials detained
Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) exposed a systematic bribery scheme at the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Ternopil Oblast. Two senior officials — a deputy head of the regional tax administration and a head of one of its territorial units — were detained after being caught receiving a bribe through an intermediary. They face up to 12 years in prison under Ukraine's Criminal Code.
