Council of the EU Working Party on Enlargement

The Working Party on Enlargement is a preparatory body of the Council of the European Union that handles questions related to the accession of new member states. It brings together representatives of the EU member states to examine progress on reforms in candidate and potential candidate countries and to prepare positions for the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) and the Council's higher formations. It is the forum where decisions such as the opening and closing of accession negotiation clusters and chapters are discussed before being referred to ministers.
