Council of Europe
The Council of Europe is an international organisation founded in 1949, dedicated to upholding human rights, the rule of law, and democratic standards across the European continent. Its seat is in Strasbourg, France. Unlike the European Union, it is not a supranational body but operates principally through international conventions — most prominently the European Convention on Human Rights — and through monitoring of their implementation by member states. Key institutions include the European Court of Human Rights and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
