The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is an independent, non-profit organization founded in 1981 and headquartered in New York City. It advocates for press freedom worldwide, documenting attacks, arrests, and killings of journalists, publishing annual reports on the state of press freedom, and pressing governments to release jailed members of the press.
