Christian Democratic Union
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is a German centre-right political party founded in 1945. From the post-war period until 2021 it was one of the country's dominant parties, heading governments under Konrad Adenauer, Ludwig Erhard, Helmut Kohl and Angela Merkel. It is a member of the European People's Party. After losing the 2021 federal election and going through an internal crisis in 2024, the party elected a new leader.
