Russian Black Sea Fleet
The Black Sea Fleet is the Russian Navy's operational-strategic command for the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, headquartered in Sevastopol. Following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, it took over naval installations formerly leased by Ukraine and became the dominant naval force in the region. Its responsibilities include protecting Russia's southern maritime approaches and projecting power across the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Since 2022 the fleet has been involved in the blockade of Ukrainian ports and in missile strikes against Ukrainian territory.
