Chornobyl NPP

The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant is a former nuclear power station in Ukraine, located in the exclusion zone near the city of Pripyat in Kyiv Oblast. It became notorious in 1986 when a reactor explosion at unit 4 caused one of the worst civil nuclear disasters in history. The remaining reactors continued operating for years afterward before the plant was fully shut down in 2000. The site is now the focus of decommissioning work and the safe containment of the damaged reactor under a new shelter structure.
