Bureau of Political-Military Affairs

The Bureau of Political-Military Affairs is a bureau of the United States Department of State responsible for coordinating defense policy, military cooperation, and the transfer of defense articles and services to foreign partners. It is headed by the Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs. The bureau manages Foreign Military Sales and commercial arms export licensing, and serves as the State Department's principal link with the U.S. Department of Defense on security assistance matters.
