Russia plans 27% hike in 2027 defense spending to record ~$202 billion
Russia's draft 2027 budget allocates about 17.1 trillion rubles (~$202 billion) to defense — roughly 27% more than originally planned and the largest war budget since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Moscow plans to fund the increase through wider borrowing, new taxes on wealthy citizens and resource companies, a bigger deficit and a drawdown from the National Wealth Fund.
