Blue Dog Coalition
The Blue Dog Coalition is a caucus of moderate and conservative members of the United States House of Representatives from the Democratic Party, founded in 1995. Its members generally represent Southern, rural and centrist-leaning districts and advocate for fiscal responsibility and pragmatic policies. The name references the traditional "blue dog" symbol historically associated with Democrats in the South. The coalition has at times held outsize influence in closely divided Congresses, where a small bloc of swing votes can determine legislative outcomes.
