Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation
The Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation is one of the five operational-strategic commands of the Russian Armed Forces, headquartered in Crimea and operating across the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Its main bases are in Sevastopol, Novorossiysk and, since 2023, expanded facilities at Tartus in Syria. The fleet has historically been responsible for projecting Russian power in the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the fleet has been a key instrument in the blockade of Ukrainian ports and the targeting of Ukrainian coastal infrastructure, suffering significant losses in the process.
