Black Sea Fleet
The Black Sea Fleet is one of the four operational-strategic formations of the Russian Navy, headquartered in Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula, which has been under Russian control since 2014. It is responsible for Russia's naval presence in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The fleet has been the principal Russian naval force engaged in operations against Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, during which it suffered significant losses and was partly withdrawn from occupied Crimea. Ukrainian authorities have opened criminal investigations into its commanders for strikes on civilian infrastructure.
