Austrian Interior Ministry
The Austrian Interior Ministry (German: Bundesministerium für Inneres, BMI) is the central federal authority of Austria responsible for internal security, policing, asylum and migration, and civil protection. It is headquartered in Vienna and is led by the Federal Minister of the Interior, who is appointed by the President on the advice of the Federal Chancellor. The ministry directs the federal police and oversees the issuing of identity documents and the registration of foreign nationals.
