Alternative for Germany (AfD)
Alternative for Germany (Alternative für Deutschland, AfD) is a German right-wing populist and Eurosceptic political party founded in 2013 by Bernd Lucke and other economists initially to oppose eurozone bailouts. Over time the party shifted markedly to the right under successive leaderships, adopting a hard line on immigration and national identity, and is now classified as a far-right party by many German and international observers. It is co-led by Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla. The AfD is represented in the Bundestag and in several state parliaments, drawing particularly strong support in eastern Germany.
