AfD
Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) is a right-wing populist political party in Germany, founded in 2013. The party is Eurosceptic and opposes immigration; it has generally taken a sceptical or hostile stance towards German military and financial support for Ukraine. It sits in the Bundestag and holds seats in several state parliaments, and has been classified by Germany's domestic intelligence services as a suspected extremist organisation in some states.

Ukrainian drones hit three Yandex data centres; Zelensky says social media became 'easier to breathe on'

The visit triggered sharp criticism from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, senior Bundestag figures, EU leaders, and members of Schröder's own SPD, while some in the SPD defended the trip as a possible opening for mediation. Schröder travelled to Moscow in connection with the Russian subsidiary of the German Globus hypermarket chain, of whose supervisory board he is a member.

US and Russia discussed American investor for Nord Stream, but White House denies talks and Germany pushes back
Reuters reported that US presidential envoy Jared Kushner and Kremlin-linked adviser Kirill Dmitriev have discussed attracting an American investor to restore the Nord Stream gas pipelines, meeting in Moscow and New York in recent weeks. The White House said any Russia deals must go through US development finance and Treasury bodies and that there have been no recent Nord Stream-specific talks. Germany said the pipelines are under European sanctions and that Berlin has no wish to approve their resumption.

Zelensky signs sanctions against former press secretary Mendel and Russian propagandists

Germany to boost Ukraine military aid after blaming Russia for Leipzig airport drone attack
