US threatens to halt PURL weapons and intelligence sharing to press Ukraine on energy strikes
The Trump administration is reportedly threatening to suspend the PURL weapons-procurement mechanism and intelligence sharing with Ukraine unless Kyiv stops long-range strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. The pressure campaign, carried out through weekend calls to Ukrainian and European officials, came just before President Donald Trump announced on social media that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire — an arrangement Ukrainian and European officials say they had not been informed of, and which Russia appeared to violate by striking the Kharkiv TEC-5 thermal power plant on the day of the announcement.
